# Due diligence

> Get the picture behind a company or a person, and the people in your network who can give you an honest read.

Each prompt is ready to paste into Ask O. Swap the bracketed parts for your own, and mention people and companies with `@` so O finds them in your network.

## Partnership due diligence with a warm read

**For:** Corp dev, Investor. **When:** A partnership is serious enough to need independent verification, before the NDA.

```text wrap theme={null}
I'm evaluating a potential partnership with @[company]. Run due diligence: who runs it, who backs it, who their key partners and clients are, and any red flags. Then tell me who in my network is connected to any of those companies and who can give me a warm, honest read.
```

</Frame>

**What O does that a search can't:** Maps the ownership and board network around the target, then intersects it with your first-degree contacts. Surfaces the person at a sibling company nobody would think to call. **Time saved:** 1.5 to 3 h.

## Company diligence before investing

**For:** Investor. **When:** A deal is on the table and you need the picture and the gaps.

```text wrap theme={null}
I'm evaluating an investment in @[company]. Run due diligence: who runs it, who backs it, who sits on the board, key customers and partners, and any governance red flags. Then tell me who in my network is connected to any of those people or companies and who can give me a candid, off-the-record read.
```

**What O does that a search can't:** Names what it could not verify (no public board roster, inconsistent round data) as diligence items, and ranks who in your network can fill each gap. **Time saved:** 2 to 3 h.

## Management reference before we back them

**For:** Investor. **When:** You're keeping the founder or CEO in place and want the honest read.

```text wrap theme={null}
We're about to back @[company] and keep @[person] in place. Map their career and every company behind it, then tell me who in my network overlapped with them and would give me an honest read on how they actually operate.
```

**What O does that a search can't:** Builds the career map, then finds the people who were there at each stage and says which read each one is best placed to give. **Time saved:** 1 to 2 h.

## The honest reference before I hire

**For:** HR. **When:** An offer is about to go out.

```text wrap theme={null}
I'm about to make an offer to @[person] for [role]. Map their career and the companies behind it, then tell me who in my network overlapped with them and who would give me a candid, off-the-record read.
```

**What O does that a search can't:** Backchannel references from your own network, found in minutes instead of asked around for over a week. **Time saved:** 1 to 2 h.

## Map the sibling companies

**For:** Corp dev, Investor. **When:** A target with a complicated ownership cluster.

```text wrap theme={null}
Do a deep research behind @[company]: find all of their partner and sibling companies, the shared board members, and see who in my network works in any of them.
```

**What O does that a search can't:** Board interlocks across an ownership cluster, then the people you know inside it. **Time saved:** 2 to 3 h.

## Who is this person, really

**For:** Everyone. **When:** A name you have been sent with no context.

```text wrap theme={null}
Who is @[person]? Career, companies, boards, what they have said publicly this year, and every connection between us. Flag anything I should know before I reply.
```

**What O does that a search can't:** The full profile plus the overlap with you, with the awkward things surfaced first. **Time saved:** 30 min.

## What is a fund actually looking for

**For:** Investor, Founder. **When:** Before you pitch or co-invest.

```text wrap theme={null}
What has @[fund] invested in over the last two years, at what stage and cheque size, and what does the pattern say they are looking for now? Who in my network has taken money from them?
```

**What O does that a search can't:** Reads the pattern across their deals rather than their website copy. **Time saved:** 1 to 2 h.
